Challenge
Urban development often falls short when it overlooks local needs and the lived experience of residents. The Urban Insight Data Lab was created to close that gap by integrating diverse data sources into a single, accessible package for planners and developers.
Approach
VOLCANO co-led the initiative, designing participatory processes and facilitating collaboration across Denmark's urban development ecosystem. Together with the University of Copenhagen, the team developed a model that incorporates social media data to better understand how citizens interact with urban environments, collected across five real-world case sites.
VOLCANO also led co-creation workshops with municipalities and stakeholders, focusing on themes such as biodiversity, public health, and social life in cities.
