Challenge
The former Voimala power station in Riihimäki, Finland is being transformed into a dynamic centre for culture, learning, and entrepreneurship. To bring that vision to life, VOLCANO was appointed as a New European Bauhaus expert to lead the civic engagement behind it.
Approach
VOLCANO led a civic engagement process involving over 80 local stakeholders — including students, artists, and cultural organisations — through workshops and participatory sessions that let the local community shape the future uses of the space.
The outcome was a comprehensive concept for Voimala and an investor pitch that merged citizen input with a sustainable vision for public life in the city.
