Kristian Riis

Kristian Riis is founder and CEO of VOLCANO, where he works at the intersection of culture, placemaking and urban development. He has built his career across the creative industries, entrepreneurship and city-making, bringing together the cultural and commercial perspectives needed to create places that people want to be part of.

As co-chair of the ULI Europe Placemaking Council, Kristian is part of the international conversation on the value of placemaking in urban development. At VOLCANO, he works with developers, public authorities and businesses to explore how culture, creativity and community can contribute to stronger places and lasting value.

He is also a co-founder and guitarist in the Danish band Nephew, giving him a perspective on creative industries and communities that is rather different from most people working in urban development.
